It started with Diablo.
My adventures in web design started in 1998, and I can blame the whole thing on a game called Diablo. A guild inspired me to start building online, and I taught myself the old-fashioned way: raw HTML written in Notepad.
Later that same year, I was designing, creating, and hosting business websites. There were no drag-and-drop builders doing the hard parts for me. If I wanted something changed, I opened the code and changed it.
Then I moved to California.
I thought I was going to make it big in web design. Boy, was I wrong.
Employers wanted experience with programs like Dreamweaver and FrontPage. I already knew how to build the sites themselves, and I was not exactly thrilled with tools that could add a lot of unnecessary bulk to something I knew how to write by hand.
The path did not turn out the way I expected. The web kept changing, though, and I kept changing with it.
And then came WordPress.
When WordPress came along, I picked it up and started diddling with it, playing with it, learning it, breaking things, fixing them, and yelling at it. I still do to this day.
Over the years that grew into responsive websites, custom WordPress work, themes, plugins, client tools, branding, graphics, hosting, troubleshooting, and the kind of creative problem-solving that happens when somebody asks, “Can the site do this?”
Twenty-eight years later, I’m still building.
Moonlit Hub brings those years together: what I learned when websites were raw HTML files, everything I picked up as the web evolved, and the tools available to me now.
What I couldn’t do before, I can now. And I could do quite a lot before.
